MEET FAMAILY HEALING ROOM COACHES - CHARLES & MONICA HOUSTON
The Houstons
Charles and Monica grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and first crossed paths as college students at Syracuse University back in 1986. They were college sweethearts.
“We’ve known each other almost 40 years now - which feels a little wild to say out loud - and we’ve been married for 31 of those years. Over time, we’ve built a relationship grounded in respect, balance, and a whole lot of love. People often ask us what’s helped us stay strong. For Charles, it’s the trust we have and the freedom we give each other to be ourselves. For Monica, it’s how we show up for one another, cheering each other on, supporting whatever God puts on our hearts, and never losing the respect that’s been there from the beginning.”
Charles is the one you’ll find watching sports, playing golf, diving into a good audiobook, or enjoying time with family. Monica brings creativity and beauty into everything she touches, whether she’s designing a space, planning an event, or exploring new places near and far.
Charles lives by the motto “Know your people”; really understand the hearts, personalities, and unique strengths of the folks closest to you. Monica encourages others to “live life on purpose and for purpose.” Together, these beliefs have shaped their home, their marriage, and their ministry to others.
ABOUT OUR FAMILY
“We have one daughter, Eva, who graduated from the University of Georgia. She’s our pride and joy. As a family, we’re happiest when we’re together — talking about life, going to church, watching our favorite shows, catching a movie or concert, taking a trip, or celebrating the holidays (Christmas and Thanksgiving are our big ones!).
Faith is a big part of our lives, and we try to live out values like integrity, humility, and gratitude every day. One verse that has guided us for years is “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them.” Matthew 7:12a”
ABOUT US AS COACHES
Charles and Monica didn’t just choose to become Family Healing Room Coaches; they felt called to it. Their heart for couples has been growing for more than 20 years through marriage ministries, Treasured Moment Marriage events, and DCH Marriage Intensives. Supporting relationships, especially marriages, has simply become part of who they are.
“The Family Healing Room gives us another space to do what we love; sit with couples, listen to their stories, help them find clarity, and remind them that hope is still possible. We believe marriage is the backbone of the family, and families are the foundation of strong communities. If we can help couples build something healthier and more fulfilling, we count that as a blessing.”
