Sonja A. Sutherland, PhD, LPC, ACS, BC-TMH, trains helping professionals and supervisors, nationally and internationally, in ethics, supervision, the development of cross-cultural responsiveness in clinical and supervisory work, and racial trauma. She has provided individual, group, and family therapeutic services, as well as supervision, in many different settings for adolescents and adults for over 25 years. Within the last 10 years, Dr. Sutherland has provided training, researched, and published in the areas of racial trauma, cultural responsiveness development, the provision of culturally responsive clinical intervention and supervision, and social justice advocacy. Dr. Sutherland’s primary clinical practice centers on providing clinical supervision services to post-masters clinicians pursuing licensure.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York as a first gen child of Jamaican and Cuban immigrants, Dr. Sutherland is now the Founder, CEO, and Chief Clinical Officer for Legacy Changers Training Institute, an organization committed to increasing equitable mental health access for diverse communities by providing culturally-responsive continuing education, training and consultation for helping professionals across all helping disciplines and organizations. In the last 10 years the organization has provided support through the Legacy Changers Counseling Center, The Family Healing Room, VASAYO, and previously as host of a local Atlanta talk-radio show focusing on family relationships and mental wellness.
